This Veterans Day we honor all who have served this country in the armed forces. We place special focus on Franco-American veterans, and would like to highlight a few from our World War I collections to mark this Veterans Day. . . 2013.0.43 This postcard of Joseph Choinard was either taken at the front, or at a training camp. The postcard is labelled 1914-18, but more likely is from 1917-1918. . . 2013.3.21 Zépherin Lessard (b. 4/5/1893), Royal Canadian Army, c. 1918. Most French Canadians did not enlist Canada's armed forces, since most were dominated by English-speaking officers. Zépherin Lessard's enrollment in the Royal Canadian Army was a result of the Conscription Act. While visiting relatives in Canada, in 1917, Lessard, a resident of Lewiston, but a Canadian by birth, was drafted into the Canadian army. . .
