Come listen to Karin Tanabe discuss her most recent novel, The Gilded Years, on Wednesday Feb 8 at 7pm. Passing meets The House of Mirth in this utterly captivating historical novel based on the true story of Anita Hemmings, the first black student to attend Vassar, who successfully passed as white - until she let herself grow too attached to the wrong person. A former Politico reporter and a frequent contributor to The Huffington Post, Karin Tanabe’s work has also appeared in The Washington Post and The Chicago Tribune. She is also the author of the novels The List and The Price of Inheritance.
Don't forget to come to the book sale today between 1-3:30pm! Books are all half price today ($0.50 each!) and the book sales are what allow the Friends of the Library fund the Takoma Park DC Library's events throughout the year.
The Friends of the Takoma Park DC Public Library are current accepting book donations! If you have books in good condition that need a good home, please drop them off at the Takoma DC Library, as we prepare for November's book sale. The book sales are the main source of funding for programming at the library, ranging from musical performances and guest speakers, to game nights for teens and face-painting for children. PLEASE, no damaged books or magazines, as we'll just have to put them right into the recycling bins. (Also, no textbooks or computer books more than two years old.)
Come into the Takoma Park DC Library and learn how to optimize your garden on Thursday, September 15 at 7 p.m. from Neil Hoffman, master gardener and manager of the Mamie D. Lee Community Garden in Fort Totten!

Come to the library and celebrate the 152nd anniversary of the battle of Fort Stevens. Fort Stevens was the focus of the only Civil War battle in the nation’s capital and the only time a sitting President (Lincoln) has come under direct enemy fire. Loretta Neumann, President of the Alliance to Preserve the Civil War Defenses of Washington, will show photos documenting the battle from its genesis in the lower Shenandoah Valley through the Battle of Monocacy near Frederick, MD to Washington, D.C., where the Union Army staved off the invasion of Confederate troops. Registration is requested. Please call 202-576-7252. Wednesday, July 6, at 7 p.m.
