Community Read Update! In consultation with author Lonnie Dupre, we have decided to postpone our grand finale event until 2021. We feel this is the safest and wisest course of action while we wait for better news about a Covid vaccine. At this time we do not know if that will be in the spring or fall, but we will provide an update at that time. In the meantime, read what Lonnie has to say about navigating the pandemic and how he draws on his experience as a polar explorer. https://www.startribune.com/to-weather-pandemic-cultivat//
Have you heard? Peter Geye, our 2013 Community-Read author, has a new book! Northernmost can be read as a stand-alone, although it is best enjoyed as the concluding novel in the Eide family trilogy that began with The Lighthouse Road. William Kent Krueger says, "Peter Geye may well be the William Faulkner of the North Country." We agree! Books are available at your local ECRL library and Scout & Morgan Books. #Northernmost
2019 Cambridge Community-Read author, Gretchen Anthony, has a new book coming out tomorrow! You can read all about it in this nice review by Mary Ann Grossmann of the Pioneer Press. Books are available at your local ECRL library and Scout & Morgan Books.

Save the date! We are delighted to announce that we have a new date for our 2020 grand finale' event with Lonnie Dupre! Lonnie will be in Cambridge on Thursday, November 5th, and will be presenting in the Great Northern Room in the beautiful new Cambridge Library! Stay tuned for updates on community book groups. In the meantime, read his thoughtful post on how to stay optimistic and energized during this time of social distancing and staying at home. Thank you for supporting the Cambridge Community Read!
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have canceled all Community Read events for March and April. We are working with Lonnie Dupre to reschedule in late summer. We will update this page with new dates for his presentation along with new dates for our community book discussions. Thank you for supporting this wonderful literacy program!
Alone at the Top is a great read for teens and young adults! For younger readers, we recommend Guts by Gary Paulsen, best known for his Hatchet series featuring Brian Robeson. Gary tells the real stories behind the Brian books: working as an emergency volunteer; the death that inspired the pilot's death in Hatchet; plane crashes he has seen and near-misses of his own. He describes how he made his own bows and arrows, and takes readers on his first hunting trips, showing the w...onder and solace of nature along with his hilarious mishaps and mistakes. He shares special memories, such as the night he attracted every mosquito in the county, or how he met the moose with a sense of humor, and the moose who made it personal. There's a handy chapter on "Eating Eyeballs and Guts or Starving: The Fine Art of Wilderness Nutrition." Recipes included. Copies of Guts are available at your ECRL Library and Scout & Morgan Books.
Lonnie Dupre is heading out on another challenging expedition this week to Mount Hunter (14,573 ft), the steepest and most technical of the three great peaks in Denali National Park. Check out his most recent blog post. Copies of Alone at the Top are available at your local ECRL library and Scout & Morgan Books. Pick up a copy of the 2020 reading and events brochure at both locations.
