Throwback Thursday 10-29-2020: Historypin One of the incredible resources that the New Hanover County Public Library utilizes to show change over time is known as Historypin. Historypin is a free open-sourced platform for digital collections that allows individuals to overlay historic images over a modern Google Street Map (https://www.historypin.org//s/popular/paging/1/pin/1146610). By doing so, it is easy to see how a place has changed over time. This image, taken circ...a 1975, shows homes on the corner of S. 7th and Nun Streets in Wilmington. The House at 618 Nun Street in the center of the image is now known as the Walker-Warshauer House. Built in 1880, the cottage was the home of Henry B. Walker (1842-1907), porter; and wife, Ellen Hayes (1843-1904). In 1940, the house was purchased for use as a rental property and converted to a duplex by Max Warshauer (1880-1949), a native of Lithuania and merchant. In the background can be seen the steeple of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church.
