Hi folks - I'm at the library and open but wanted to warn you that they have not got to the parking lot or paths yet. Hopefully soon! Here until 1pm. Open for business, but please be careful!
Due to the weather, the library will have a delayed opening this morning at 11am - with a closure possible for the day. Please check back for an update later. Sorry for any inconvenience.
The library will be closing at 4pm tomorrow, closed on Thursday , and will also be closed on Saturday. Open for pick up again on Tuesday, December 29th and here from 1-4pm on December 31st. Happiest of holidays to all - and please enjoy in a way that keeps you and others safe!
The library will be closing at 4pm, Wednesday, Nov. 25th, and closed for Thanksgiving. Our Saturday hours will remain the same as usual, from 10-1pm. I wish you all a safe holiday - and may it (please!) be a normal one next year!!
TIME CHANGE - PLEASE READ We are happy to report that Front Porch Pick-up is as strong as ever. Many people are calling in to request specific items, to have items chosen for them, or to request an Inter Library loan. (October was our highest number of ILLS ever requested!) However, the vast majority of our requests are picked up before 6pm, and the evenings tend to be very quiet as very few people call in for help, or for requests, after 7pm. We have therefore made the deci...sion to close the library at 7pm going forward - and starting on Wed., November 18th. This will still provide evening hours, but eliminate the little used final hour. On another note - pick up will generally be under the Front Porch, as it has been, but for very damp or rainy days, please come to the side door and I will hand out your materials - masked, of course! Please call me at the library if you have further questions. 453-4015.
We are very happy to announce our summer program special! Of course it's very different than the usual summer program offerings, but a very, very cool option! Tom Verner, award winning magician and founder of Magicians Without Borders, the organization that has brought magic and laughter to over a million refugee and orphaned children, and his partner, Janet Fredericks, have produced a series of thirteen tutorials that will teach enough magical tricks to allow a 30 minute ma...gic show presentation. Each session will feature one or two magic tricks, and will also include other stage craft skills important for savvy magicians, such as presenting your show in an entertaining and amusing way! Interested in enrolling your child? Or yourself? Call or email me at the library and I will send you the link. This program is recommended for children aged around ten and up to adult. (Perhaps those adults who always dreamed of being able to do magic tricks!) Happy magical learning!
I'm happy to announce that we will be re-starting our Inter-Library Loan courier delivery service this coming Tuesday! If you have given me requests already, they will be entered this week. If you have ILL requests from March or before, it's possible they will arrive this Tuesday. I'll be contacting people as they come in. If you've never used ILL before, it's easy! If you're looking for something you don't see at this library - we can almost always get if for you, one way or another. Just let us know what you want. We can request in-state or across the country. ILLs usually take a week to come in and can nearly always be renewed. And it's always free!
We are SO excited to announce that as of Tuesday, June 2nd, we will be starting curbside (actually front porch) service at the library. Here's how it will work: 1. Decide what materials you would like to check out. (You can check the collection online at www.nhcl.org or call me during regular library hours for help at 453-4015). 2. OR email me at [email protected] 3. OR leave a phone message, with your name and contact number and up to 3 requests. I will get back to you to confir...m your "order" and let you know the next pick up times. I am happy to help you choose something over the phone - and can check that you have not read it before. 4. We will be placing your requests on a small table under the front porch. Please pick up as promptly as possible. Pick up will take place during library hours only. 5. When you are returning items they can be placed in our refurbished drop box (yay!) to the left of the library. All returned materials will be quarantined for seven days before they go back into circulation. If you have any further questions about the process you can reach me at the library during regular library hours. See more
Hi everyone - I'll be zooming with the Trustees this coming Thursday evening to discuss a path forward. As of now, we have no details but at least initially we will be starting with curbside pick up. As soon as I have further details, I will post here and on Front Porch Forum. I am continuing shelf work - and continuing to miss you all! Warm wishes and healthy thoughts to everyone.
Posting...just because. Have a nice evening, everyone.
Hello, everyone! Here's some more news on our wonderful community! A group of community members are working together to connect local students with fellow neighbors throughout New Haven (specifically elders and households without school kids) We have created 2 Way Postcards as the vehicle for this conversation and connection. Students can send a pre-addressed and stamped postcard to a community member. (we have names and addresses all ready to go!) The recipient community member would then tear off the attached second postcard (already stamped) and return it to the student. If your family would like to participate, contact Kim Callahan for pre-addressed, pre-stamped postcards. Feel free to send more than one. Tell your friends! [email protected] or 453-5695.
Here's a lovely way to celebrate the New Haven spring! Students (and their adults) are invited to make a poster with the theme "Welcome Spring!" Free poster board and markers are available for pick up on the porch of the New Haven Congregational Church, located on the town green, starting on Monday, April 20. Use whatever you have at home to make a colorful poster, put it in your window, take a picture, and post the photo on the New Haven Community Facebook Page: https://ww...w.facebook.com/groups/1111139645604868/. (Please note that this is NOT the library page - but we'll be sure to check the community FB page out!) Have a great story or photo about how you are enjoying spring break at home? Post it with a picture on the same page. Have questions or need more art supplies? ContactPastor Abigail Diehl-Noble [email protected] or call 802-282-6944 or Kim Callahan 802-453-5695 See more
Hello everyone - I managed to take this photo in between the snow flurries. I hope you are all keeping well. I'm thinking that our spirits could be considerably raised by a little warmth and sunshine! Here at the library I have been busy working on the collection - organizing, recategorizing, weeding, etc. It's satisfying to do, since I've not had the time before - but I REALLY miss seeing you all - and cannot wait to see all the friendly faces and once again have all those great conversations that I'm used to!
Guilty. : )
There will be further FPF updates tonight on library online resources. Please call me with any questions or for library enrollment. I will be here (alone!) during regular library hours. HARRY POTTER fans - looks like a great link for you - or your kids! https://www.wizardingworld.com/news/introducing-hp-at-home
Hi everyone - Sharing a little cheer from my front garden! I have a long post about accessing ListenUpVermont (audiobooks and ebooks) and Kanopy (free streaming videos) on Front Porch Forum tonight. If you are on Facebook but not FPF and would like to know more, call me at the library and I'll fill you in!
Please read tonight's issue of Front Porch Forum for an update on library decisions. I will be posting on Facebook later tonight.
