Shopping for grocery in the comfort of your home and having your purchases delivered to your doorstep is not a convenience available only with the smartphone era. This catalogue donated by Mr John Koh to the library was printed in 1959. It provided a price list of the grocery and personal care products offered by Pasir Panjang Provision Store’s home delivery service. Supplementary information, such as an English-Malay glossary and simple recipes, was also included. The catalogue and delivery service offered were targeted at the expatriate community in 1950s and 1960s Singapore. A browse through this catalogue gives you an insight into the lifestyles and culinary habits of Europeans living in Singapore. #catalogue #homedelivery

Before green became the new black, veteran architect Tay Kheng Soon had proposed groundbreaking sustainability ideas in the 1990s for urban planning in Singapore. Tay’s concept to create a compact, high-density, multi-tiered and functional tropical precinct was captured in the initial and final drafts of the Kampong Bugis Development Guide Plan (1990). The two guide plans donated to the National Library showcased Tay’s progressive ideas of a car-lite society and self-sustainable estates.
