Good Afternoon Little Free Library Stewards. Red Ribbon Week, October 23 31, is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program. Red Ribbon Week started after the death of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique Kiki Camarena, who in 1985 was brutally murdered by drug traffickers he was investigating in Mexico.... After his death, people started wearing red ribbons to honor Kiki’s sacrifice. Today, millions of people celebrate Red Ribbon Week by wearing red ribbons, participating in community anti-drug events, and pledging to live drug-free lives. In many communities the celebration has turned into a variety of activities implemented throughout the month of October. These activities are meant to demonstrate the importance of making healthy and smart decisions throughout life so that your dreams and goals can be achieved. This year, as always, our Partnership for a Positive Pomona [ P3 ] is a key sponsor and promoter of the Red Ribbon Week activities, reaching out to students and parents throughout the City and School District. Outreach is more difficult this year as students are still attending classes remotely and so school-site activities are limited. We are calling on LITTLE FREE LIBRARY and Stewards throughout Pomona to mark the occasion and to decorate your own LFLs with bright red ribbons and bows. P3 has these available for your use along with some giveaways, such as pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. for you to place inside your Little Free Library. See example photo of our big red bows as well as my own La Verne Little Free Library ready for the celebration. Please email Gloria Andino or Lilia Onate directly at P3 to arrange a pickup or drop-off of your Red Ribbon Week supplies. 'Gloria Andino' 'Lilia Onate'

I finally finished reading the first two (and very long) novels in Ken Follett’s ‘Kingsbridge Priory’ series. ‘Pillars of the Earth’ and ‘World Without End’ are... both available at La Verne Little Free Library on ‘D’ Street just above Bonita Avenue. Just ordered paperback of ‘A Column of Fire’ from Amazon so check back in a couple of weeks to find it as well. Also, and finally, finished a great biographical journey of an immigrant physician practicing in rural Tennessee during the 1980’s AIDS epidemic. It is a powerful story of humanity set against denial and disregard for the lives of so many young, and old, gay men in US. I can highly recommend ‘In My Country’ my Dr. Abraham Verghese, M.D. All this and more at your local LFL #28070! See more

Congratulations to David McElwain Supt. Richard Lynn Martinez along with #PUSD staff members and board members surprised David this afternoon by having a Littl...e Free Library created and designed to show their appreciation of David's leadership in promoting the #littlefreelibraries throughout the #pomonavalley and many other cities. On behalf of myself and Jeff Schenkel with #LaNuevaVoz these are the photos I took along with Jeff before this afternoon's virtual surprise event took place. During this morning's virtual Pomona Chamber of Commerce weekly Friday Coffee Connection David mentioned the Little Free Library's and it was so hard to keep the secret but I did. Amy McElwain and I knew ahead of time this would take place. awesome event. Pomona Unified School District #pomonachamber #pusd
