From UPMC Western MD: Thanks to cooperation with Allegany County and state health officials, UPMC Western Maryland will offer a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for ...the public this Thursday, January 21, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the hospital auditorium. At the clinic, the Moderna vaccine will be available for Allegany County residents age 75 and older in accordance with the current state of Maryland guidelines. Arrangements for the second dose of the vaccine will be made at this time as well. Those interested in reserving a spot must call 240-964-1000 between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20 to sign up, as no walk-in appointments will be honored. Slots will be offered to callers on a first-come, first-served basis with 300 vaccines available. Individuals who are successfully scheduled to get the vaccine should look for signs with parking instructions and enter the hospital through the entrance adjacent to the parking garage where they will be screened and then directed to registration where they will be required to show their driver’s license or another valid form of identification. UPMC Western Maryland recognizes the importance of safely distributing the COVID-19 vaccine to its community members, and while the number of doses available for this initial clinic are limited, multiple additional clinics will be scheduled in the coming weeks with details to be announced soon. On January 19th, National Popcorn Day pops onto the scene with a crunch we all love to enjoy! The annual celebration recognizes a treat that satisfies munchies,... day or night. This time-honored snack can be sweet or savory, caramelized, buttered or plain, molded into a candied ball, or tossed with nuts and chocolate. The word corn in Old English meant grain or, more specifically, the most prominent grain grown in a region. When Native Americans introduce their most common grain, maize, to early Europeans, they aptly applied the word corn. Today, Americans consume 13 billion quarts of popcorn a year, more than any other country in the world. A majority of the popcorn produced in the world is grown in the United States. Nebraska leads the corn belt in popcorn production. #NationalPopcornDay #AlleganyLibraries #popcorn
