BEXLEY’S BOOK OF THE YEAR Thank you for all your great suggestions, reviews and recommendations From all your nominations, we selected a shortlist of six books, and asked you to vote for your favourite and vote you certainly did! And we’re delighted to announce that the clear winner this year was Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens... This novel traces the life story of the central character, Kya Clark, from girlhood to maturity and her solitary, lonely, furtive and self-sufficient existence immersed in the ecology and landscape of the coastal marshlands of North Carolina which are described vividly Dawn (pictured) from Welling was one of our first readers to rave about the book A story of survival - moving and inspirational I absolutely loved it - such powerful characters, beautiful poetic language and the setting is so atmospheric, really felt like I was there with them. Definitely my book of the year! And, we were thrilled to hear from the author herself from her home in the USA who emailed us to say; Hi, I am so grateful and excited that my novel Where the Crawdads Sing has won the Bexley Book of the Year Award. I never dreamed that it would reach so many readers around the world who would identify so closely with Kya’s story. I spent most of my life in remote areas of the world, and for years have been lonely. Now, I feel like I have many friends -- including you! I’m a big fan of libraries, so this is extra special to me. Where the Crawdads Sing is about many different themes; one of those is loneliness. You do not have to live in a wild marsh to be isolated; many people in towns and cities feel lonely, and I believe that is one of the reasons so many people have identified with Kya's story. 'Crawdads' shows us that we can find the resilience and courage to soar, even on our own. I am thrilled that you have connected with this landscape and this young girl -- because Kya lives in all of us, no matter where we live in the world. I hope to get to the UK someday to meet some of you! Thank you so very much Delia Delia Owens’ website https://www.deliaowens.com/about-the-author Where the Crawdads Sing in Bexley Libraries...https://tinyurl.com/y39b4nff

LIBBY LIKES ebooks https://arena.yourlondonlibrary.net/web/bexley/ebooks And here’s oneRead & Recommended by a Bexley Libraries Borrowerhttps://bexley.overdrive.com/search The Authenticity Project by Clare Pooley @A Feel Good book, well worth a read, particularly now when a little cheeriness is needed. The idea of leaving a notebook in a café and it being passed around and six people coming together as a result of it may be somewhat cheesy but so what? It worked. Some may... say the focus was on the lies people told but I focussed on the characters and what good things they did instead. It uplifted me and that is what I expected from it. ' Try an ebook take the plunge!
